Free Seminar Educates Seniors about Scams in Irvine

SELMA – Seniors are a vulnerable audience, often preyed upon by unlicensed or unscrupulous contractors. Fortunately, there are resources to teach seniors about scams and how they can protect themselves from becoming victims.

One example of those tools for seniors is a Senior Scam StopperSM seminar. Senator Melissa Hurtado and the California Contractors State License Board are hosting a FREE seminar on Monday, September 23, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Selma Senior Center, 2301 Selma Street, in Selma.

Experts will provide information to seniors about scams and how to protect themselves from becoming victims. Attendees will get questions answered and obtain assistance if they have been scammed.

Our Senior Scam Stopper seminars have been offered throughout the state since 1999 in cooperation with legislators, state and local agencies, law enforcement, district attorneys, and community-based organizations.

Seminars provide information about construction-related scams and broader topics, including identity theft, auto repair, Medicare, foreign lotteries, and mail fraud.

Please check CSLB’s website for a look at upcoming seminars coming to a city near you. For additional information, please contact Senator Hurtado’s office at 559-264-3070.
