Contractors State License Board Mourns Passing of Popular Board Member
John C. Hall remembered for his dedication to protecting consumers
Sacramento — It is with great sadness that the Contractors State License Board (CSLB) announces the passing of Board Vice Chair John C. Hall. Mr. Hall died Saturday after suffering a heart attack. He was 52 years old.
Mr. Hall was first appointed to the CSLB as a public member in November 2000 by then Assembly Speaker Robert Hertzberg. Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez reappointed him for a second four-year term in May 2004.
While on the Board, Mr. Hall served as Chair of the Legislative Committee and Enforcement Committee. In 2004 he was elected Board Secretary; in 2005 he was elected Vice Chair.
Mr. Hall also served as the Business Manager for the Plumbers Union Local 78 in Los Angeles for more than 11 years. Prior, he served as the local officer for the union for 15 years. He was also an active member of the Joint Apprenticeship and the Joint Labor Management and Training Committees for more than 20 years.
"John was a fantastic Board member and just a great person," said Board Chair Bert Sandman. "John would always bring us back on point. He was dedicated to the Board and to protecting the consumer and he would remind us that this was our mission, if we needed reminding."
CSLB Registrar Steve Sands remembers Mr. Hall as tough, but with a heart of gold. "He used to joke about 'warm and fuzzy' things, but those of us who knew him, knew he was warm and fuzzy inside." CSLB staff also knew never to schedule a meeting on a Wednesday. "There was no way John was going to miss his special day with his daughter, Katrina," added Sands. "That's what I'll remember most about John-his love for Katrina. That, and he was a friend. For him to call me his friend is an honor that I will forever cherish."
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 1st at 10 a.m. at the Shrine Auditorium, 665 West Jefferson Blvd., in Los Angeles. Enter the East Parking Lot off 32nd Street.
