Contractors State License Board Looking for People to Join its Enforcement Team

State giving public first chance in nearly four years to get rewarding jobs with salaries starting at $42,000/year


SACRAMENTO—The Contractors State License Board (CSLB) wants everyone in the construction industry to know that it's put out a "Help Wanted"sign. The CSLB has been given the go-ahead to hire additional people to join its enforcement team.

People in the classification of Enforcement Representative I (ER-1) perform a wide variety of tasks focusing on proactive enforcement of laws relating to unlicensed activity and fraudulent activity by licensed contractors. ER-1's also investigate consumer complaints and alleged violations of Contractors License Laws to determine if there is substantial evidence to warrant filing a legal action. As part of their work, they visit job sites, conduct interviews and compile facts to support or refute an allegation against a contractor. ER-1's also work with district attorneys, police departments and other state agencies to conduct undercover sting operations targeting unlicensed contractors and sweep operations on jobs sites to verify contractors' licenses.

The first step in getting one of these rewarding enforcement jobs is to take a state employment exam. This puts you on a hiring list so that you can be considered for a position. An exam is being given this summer, but the deadline to sign up is fast approaching. Applications must be postmarked no later than May 23, 2005. A written exam will be given on Saturday, June 18, 2005.

"These are important and exciting positions in our enforcement unit," said David Fogt, CSLB's Enforcement Chief. "This is the first time we've given the open exam in almost four years. We're excited at the prospect of getting some really talented people to join our team."
