Contractors State License Board Elects New Officers
SACRAMENTO — Contractors State License Board (CSLB) Registrar Stephen P. Sands announced the election of Minnie Lopez-Baffo of Rosemead as Chair and Larry Booth of Sacramento as Vice Chair of the Contractors State License Board. The new officers were unanimously elected by CSLB Board members at their July 18 meeting in San Diego.
Ms. Lopez-Baffo was appointed to the Board by the Senate in June 1995 as a public member representative. She has served as Vice Chair of the Board for the past year. She is currently the Community Affairs Manager for the Southern California Gas Company, a Sempra Energy Company, and has held a variety of managerial positions there since 1972. Ms. Lopez-Baffo has served on the Los Angeles County Human Relations Commission, Los Angeles County Commission on the Status of Women, the Small Business Administration Advisory Council Region 9, the California Youth Authority Advisory Council Region III, the California Highway Patrol Hispanic Advisory Council and the Los Angeles City Fire Department Blue Ribbon Committee. She was also a founding member of Hispanics Organized for Political Equality-PAC (HOPE).
"I am very honored to serve the Board and the citizens of the state in this capacity. As a public member, I look forward to working with my fellow Board members to enhance consumer protection and address the critical issues and decisions the Board faces in the coming year," Ms. Lopez-Baffo said.
Mr. Booth was appointed to the Board as a specialty contractor representative by Governor Davis in 2000. He is one of two principals with Frank M. Booth, Inc./Valley Sheet Metal Company and is a licensed contractor and registered professional engineer. He has been involved in a wide range of projects throughout his 26-year career with F.M. Booth. Some of his recent projects include wastewater treatment plants, pumping and food processing plants, hospitals and jails. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering at the University of California, Berkeley in 1976.
"As we embark on a very busy and challenging year, I am honored to serve the Board and the people of California," Booth said.
Ms. Lopez-Baffo replaces retiring CSLB Board Chair Joseph Tavaglione, who was appointed to the Board by former Governor Wilson in 1997.
The Contractors State License Board operates under the California Department of Consumer Affairs. The CSLB licenses and regulates California's 278,000 contractors, and investigates 25,000 complaints against contractors annually.
